Loss of control, adverse consequences, and continuation despite the consequences are typical behaviors found in addiction.
Compulsive sexual behavior, fueled by denial and shame, creates a cylcle that feels impossible to break despite the many promises to self or others. As tolerance develops, sexual acting out escalates into dangerous and risky behaviors. While this may bring temporary relief, eventually, the addiction destroys relationships, jobs, and many aspects of the individual's life.
